ASHLEIGH KILGOUR
Joined the band in December 2007, as a tenor drummer with Bethan, after being inspired by Blackwood and Hickory! Tony Higgins provided us with some excellent instruction to help us get started on the tenor drum, and is now teaching us the chanter. I also play the tenor horn in the school band, so that’s where the idea of tenor drumming came in. I have ridden since the age of six and currently enjoy competing on my gorgeous pony Rattie. Also I love to ski, whenever I get the chance! Highlights: My first ever gig, in Tarbert, being part of the C.D, the Crinan gig and everything about Poland!

BETHAN PHILLIPS
I joined the band with Ashleigh in 2007 after the Blackwood & Hickory concert. Tony taught us until we became members of the band when Sally and Bill took over. Our first gig was the CD recording in March which was great but nerve-racking. I have since gone to Poland with the band which was amazing. I spend a lot of time horseriding. I also swim and dance. I play the piano, tenor horn and I am learning the chanter.

GEORGE HALL
I started learning snare drumming with MAPB in 1998 and first played out at Kilmartin gala day 2000. I am just as nervous playing out now as I was then... but get lots of pleasure from it. My favourite gig has to be the Crinan Classic Boats closely followed by all the Polish gigs and the Blackwood & Hickory Project.

BRIAN HASTINGS
I joined the band in November 2007 as a tenor drummer after a break of roughly 35 years, having previously played with Cumnock & District British Legion Pipe Band from the ripe old age of 7. I had always intended taking up playing again after getting married and moving to Ardrishaig, but odd working hours meant I wouldn't be able to give full commitment. A change of job gave me more spare time and a brief conversation with Alistair Maule gave me the push I needed. During the Music Marathon fundraiser in Feb 2008, I had a go at the side drum and found I enjoyed it more than tenor, so decided to switch. Biggest kick so far with Mid Argyll was getting out with the band which just let me know how much I'd missed playing.

EOGHAN ANDERSON
I like riding cross country on my bike and piping... but not at the same time! I like most music from Vampire Weekend to Tiesto to Fred Morrison. I first started learning with Rod Buchanan a few years ago and joined the band as a junior member in August 2007. My first engagement with the band was the Lantern Parade at Lochgilpead in November 1998 and it made me very proud because ever since I was small I wanted to be a piper in the Mid Argyll Pipe Band.

SALLY HALL
I am a Tenor drummer and Secretary of MAPB. I joined in 2005 as George (husband) plays snare drum and I thought I'd join them and beat them. Other interests - when time permits, include playing fiddle with a few local musicians, outdoor activities, plus wildlife and grand children watching (not a lot of difference). Highlights: the 80th Anniversary Blackwood & Hickory Concert and CD, trips to Poland (including a 20 couple Orkney Strip the Willow in a sun-baked town square), Golowan Festivals and the Crinan Classic Boats gigs. Also, seeing the young players coming into the Band and "growing up" with it.

THOMAS MCCULLOCH I began learning the pipes in Spring 2002 when I was 11 with my first performance in the band coming in Inveraray in the Summer of 2004. I have had a very enjoyable time in the band and there are so many highlights it's hard to pick just one, but I do remember coming back from the Czech Republic trip in 2005 saying that it was the best trip I'd ever been on! That was also the beginning of what has now become a very successful and enjoyable relationship with the Czestochowa Pipes & Drums. I'm currently studying PE teaching at the University of Stirling, but I seem to spend more time on the footbal park or in the gym than I do studying! |
